Contemporary Scottish Artist
Scottish artist Jane Cartney is currently based at her studio in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England, but maintains close links with Scotland.
A spontaneous artist who works intuitively, Cartney’s work is inspired by form and colour, either in the landscape or in architecture.
In recent years, work has been focussed on individual portrait commissions, several series of paintings and prints inspired by architectural and coastal landmarks and features in Scotland and The West Country, a series of pheasant paintings, and a short series of black and white cat paintings and drawings.

'I strive to express graphically the power of the subject, the mass and movement in the structure, the spectrum of colour radiating from the object, in essence the life force. The intangible inspires me to paint, in much the same way that hearing a piece of music or a particular voice inspires me to sing. I am driven to create and recreate the experience of initial inspiration and to communicate and share the sentient experience with the viewer' |
